What is pH and how does it affect my pool/hot tub water?
Your pool or hot tub needs to be maintained at a pH of between 7.2 and 7.6 and the total alkalinity of between 80-120 ppm (parts per million). If your pH is too high you could get scale on the pool/hot tub walls, floor and in the equipment (pump, heater etc...). A high pH also stops chlorine from working effectively so it's very important to keep it in balance. Operating within these parameters will prevent damage to your pool equipment and ensure that the sanitizer in your pool is effective. If your Total Alkalinity is too high it will be very difficult to change your pH, so adjust the Total Alkalinity first!

How to reduce pH and Alkalinity in Pool/Hot tub water

pH Minus can be used to reduce either the pH or Total Alkalinity of your pool water.

• Dose rate is 10g per 1,000 litres of water (so if your spa holds 1,500 litres you'd need to add 15g)
• To lower pH; Dissolve amount needed in a bucket of luke warm water and pour around the edge of the pool or spa with the filtration running
• To lower Total Alkalinity; Dissolve amount needed in a bucket of luke warm water and pour straight into the deep end (if you have one) of the pool/spa with the filtration temporarily off (this is called a 'slug dose')
• Keep dosing daily until the pH/Alkalinity is within the correct range.
